Magickal MindsetAll emotions are useful in magick, but not all thoughts are. The energy raised when an emotion is stirred up can be channeled into an intent and directed to manifest a willed purpose. Thoughts on the other hand are more ellusive, and more damaging, if you are unaware of them. The magickal mindset is a term for being aware of your thoughts, empowering the useful ones and sweeping away the rest. When you are in a magickal mindset, all things are possible and the mental blockages that plague everyday life are gone. Suddenly fire walking, spoon bending, spellcraft and shielding are manifested realities. To be able to do these things you must retrain your mind. As with all things in magick, this requires patient, persistant discipline.
To retrain your mind you must first become aware of your thoughts. Throughout the day periodically stop and ask yourself, "What was I just thinking?" Recall your last few thoughts. Note how many of them were negative. How many times a day do you think "I'm tired" or "I'm lazy"? Picture a powerful witch. Are they tired or lazy? No! They're energetic and strong. Next analyze your thoughts by asking yourself, "Was that how an effective witch thinks?" If it wasn't, then re-word the thought into a positive affirmation. If you thought, "I'm tired", counter it with the thought, "I'm energized." To solidify the retraining of your mind into the magickal mindset, put power behind the thought. Focus on how you look, sound, move and feel when you are energized. A useful catchphrase to remember is, "fake it till you make it". If you really are tired, smile, laugh and dance a little as if you were energetic. Your body will pick up on the ques and you'll actually become energized. There are signals in the brain that tell our body to mirror our emotions, and the signals can be used in reverse. Your body can signal your brain to mirror your actions. Become aware of what you're thinking and change your thoughts. "Cogito, ergo sum - I think therefore I am"
